The Armenian Independence Day Festival Committee was established in order to host an annual cultural festival in Little Armenia, Hollywood to celebrate Armenia's first independence day, which was established on May 28, 1918.

May 28, 1918 marks the first independence of the Armenian republic after 600 years of Ottoman Turkish oppression. The republic established on this date set the foundation for today's independent republic of Armenia, which was born on September 21, 1991.

The annual Little Armenia Festival celebrates the first independence of Armenia, as well as over 3000 years of history and culture which is displayed during the Festival through a variety of exhibits, traditional Armenian cuisine, and musical and dance performances. Special entertainment and games for kids are also provided.

Armenian community organizations such as the Armenian Youth Federation, Hamazkayin Armenian Cultural and Educational Society, Armenian Relief Society, Shant Student Association, Armenian General Athletic Union and Scouts (Homenetmen) and the Armenian National Committee of America come together to celebrate the Armenian culture and history.
